What does “health experiences” mean?
We are publishing people’s stories and creative works that speak to their personal experience with health. Your work does not have to focus on the healthcare system at all. For example, you might create work about self care, family or friend support, what it feels like to live with a chronic condition.
We are not publishing medical studies, research, or any other news materials. We are interested in personal perspectives only.
What is FLINTA* and why their experiences?
FLINTA* stands for Frauen/Female, Lesbian, Intersex, Non-binary, Trans, and Agender. We are generally disenfranchised by dominant culture and the health care industry in general, and as such are giving a platform to amply our experiences.
Does my work need to focus on negative aspects of healthcare?
No! We love positive stories and experiences. Please also send your stories of healing, of growth, and of learning how to live in your body.
What mediums do you publish?
We are interested in nearly all creative works. Our current focus is writing, artwork, photography, music, and video. However, if you have something you think would interest us, feel free to contact us and ask.
I’m an ally — Can I submit my work?
We love our allies! However, we are only specifically publishing work from the FLINTA* community due to the lack of visibility regarding our needs. Please subscribe to our newsletter to help support us and get an update if we do a special issue. Thanks!
What if you know someone who submits?
That’s a great question! We have a conflict of interest policy in place to create a fair submission process for our contributors. If one of us (including our guest editor) knows a submitter, we will recuse (remove) ourselves from the decision making process and allow the other two editors to review the work.
Do you accept work in other languages?
Currently we only accept work in English. Translations are welcome, but please make a note of it in your submission. Thanks.
